Statement by Candidate about Why Running:

Issues
Transportation (both roads and public transit) will continue to be a major issue until the problems are resolved. I will work to find solutions to the transportation issues, including air quality. Transportation will be a key to our economic stability and quality of life. It is all connected.
Education- I will work to make certain that all Idaho children have an education that will help them to be successful and take advantage of the new opportunities in Idaho. I support the wonderful teachers, support staffs and parent/teacher organizations within our area and state.
Taxes – The entire tax system should be explored and changes made to reflect the dynamics of our modern world.
I have participated in public service for most of my adult life, either through volunteer work or as an elected official. I love Idaho and feel that I have the knowledge, business sense and skills that are necessary to be an effective Legislator.

Candidate Statement about The Common Interest:

The Common Interest
I also have a “Common Sense” approach in dealing with problems and issues.

Candidate Bio:

Biographical Statement
Since being elected a Garden City Council member in 2005, I have worked successfully with the other council members and the Mayor to craft and implement many city ordinances (laws) that have made the community a better place to live, work and play. One that I am very proud of is Ordinance 866-07 that limited convicted child sex offenders from living within 1000 feet of a child oriented facility. Thus helping make our children safer in our neighborhoods.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management and retired from a management position in a natural gas utility company. Prior to that, I worked for twenty-two years in a Union represented job. My husband, Paul, retired from the U. S. Postal Service. We are blessed with three children and four grand-children.

Being actively involved in our community has always been a way of life for me. My current community affiliations are: Assistance League of Boise (8 years) and the Executive Women’s Golf Association. I have previously been the Chairman of the Library Foundation Board, the President of the Welcome Club of the Treasure Valley, a volunteer for the American Red Cross, a volunteer for United Way and various other organizations.

I served on the Ada County Open Space Task Force Advisory Committee and am currently the Co-Chair of F.A.C.T.S. – Foundation for Ada/Canyon Trail Systems, a member of the Garden City Parks and Waterways Committee, a member of the Boise River Trail Coalition Steering Committee and the advisor to the Garden City Arts Commission.

I am an inclusive consensus builder who believes that all sides of an issue should be explored and citizens heard before making a final decision on important issues that impact our lives and the future of our Great State of Idaho.

I will provide the experience, enthusiasm and energy to make a difference for District 16, the Treasure Valley and Idaho. I have a common sense approach in dealing with issues and problems. I have an excellent track record in researching and crafting legislation and working cooperatively to make certain that it is implemented.

Candidate Statement on Partisan Politics and Special Interests:

Partisan Politics: It is time that we put our personal interests aside and do what is best for the citizens and well being of our state. We must look at the entire picture, see how everything is connected and make the best decisions to continue the prosperity of Idaho. This would include educational opportunities, good air quality, recreation, updated roads and public transit. Without these, our economy will not continue to grow and our state will become stagnant.
